Ghana national involved in cyber fraud arrested

The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a Ghana national from Delhi for a cyber fraud of Rs 15 lakh. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Cyber Crime, STF, Ankush Mishra informed that a resident of Rishikesh had registered a case of being a victim of an online scam of Rs 15 lakh. He said that during the investigation, the police found involvement of a resident of Ghana, Ebuka Obi, in the fraud. On the basis of the evidence gathered in the case, a team of cyber police of STF was sent to Delhi on Tuesday who finally nabbed the accused from Mohan Garden area, said the DSP. He said that the STF also recovered 10 mobile sets, three each SIM cards and debit cards. Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, Mishra said that Obi used to call victims from different mobile numbers in the name of sending online prizes or gifts and lure them into doing online transactions. He also used to pose as customs officer and demanded money in different accounts in the name of tax submission, said Mishra. The DSP has appealed to the public not to share any personal information and bank details in the name of claiming online gifts or prizes as cyber criminals used them to conduct cyber frauds. He also appealed to the public to contact authorities or call the helpline number 1930 immediately after the witness or become a victim of cyber fraud.
