The gigolo scam which duped thousands of people in many States with the lure of quick money has now entered Dehradun to target the youths. Many posters have been observed pasted on electric poles and walls in various areas of the city asking men to contact the given mobile numbers in the poster to earn Rs 5,000 to 10,000 daily.
On contacting these numbers, a man is reportedly asking the caller to deposit Rs 2,000 as registration fee. A QR code is being sent to the mobile of the caller to transfer this amount. However, the police have not received any complaints regarding this fraud. The superintendent of police (City) Sarita Dobhal said that the police are aware of the matter and have started an investigation. She said, “The police teams are analysing contact numbers and the QR code that is being sent for money transfer. The culprits will be nabbed soon after gathering concrete evidence.”
It appears to be a scam to trap men that can lead to big financial fraud and people should stay away from such suspicious and illicit practices, added the SP. In the gigolo scam, scammers use a range of tactics to convince their victims to earn quick money via gigolo services without any hefty investment. They also usually emphasise flexible timing of the work besides the “enjoyment” that comes with the work along with a large amount of money. The officials have appealed to people to stay away from such scammers and advised them to immediately file a complaint if somebody falls prey to such scams.
