Girls in U’Khand must know their self-worth: Singh

The governor of Uttarakhand, lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh emphasised the importance of girls in the State realising their self-worth to lead successful lives in society. He said this during a programme organised by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) on the occasion of National Girl Child Day at the Raj Bhawan on Wednesday. During the programme, the governor along with SCPCR chairperson Geeta Khanna, presented certificates to girls in the State who have demonstrated acts of bravery or exceptional achievements in various fields. Singh said that girls in the State are making their mark in every field. He cited his visits to various universities in the State, where he found that over 62 per cent of girls received gold medals for academic excellence or completed PhDs with good marks. He stressed the need for girls to steer clear of drugs and to value themselves.
Singh further praised the work of the SCPCR in terms of girls’ safety and congratulated the commission on the organisation of the Bal Vidhan Sabha- 2022. He also appreciated the two successful sessions of the Bal Vidhan Sabha and encouraged the commission to continue its work in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Khanna addressed the girls and provided them with information on how to contact the SCPCR in case of any mishap involving them. She also shared information about the commission’s actions against drug addiction, on child rights, against child marriage and illegally run coaching institutes. The programme also saw information being provided on gender sensitivity and equality.
