Says the leadership has not changed in Uttarakhand Congress
In an apparent attempt to bring truce between the warring factions and give a message to the leaders airing their differences in public, former chief minister and general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat has asked the Congressmen to refrain from creating adverse situation for the party in the state. Rawat, who was recently nominated as the head of the election campaign committee said that nothing has changed in the party except the position of President of Pradesh Committee (PCC). He said that the leadership of the Congress party has remained the same in the state. Rawat asked that leaders in their posters and behaviour should give respect and importance to every leader. “Leadership is not built in one day and it remains unaffected by presence or absence on a poster. But it does pollute the environment so no one should willingly or otherwise engage in such activities,’’ he said.
Issued in the backdrop of the media reports that some leaders are not happy at the recent change affected by the party in its leadership in the state, Rawat’s statement is being viewed as an attempt to forge unity in the party. It is worth mentioning here that after appointment of Ganesh Godiyal who is considered as a protégé of Harish Rawat and Rawat’s selection as head of election campaign committee, the leaders owing allegiance to Harish Rawat camp claimed that the party has projected their leader as the chief ministerial candidate. Godiyal himself asserted that Harish Rawat would be the face of the party in Uttarakhand. Former PCC president Pritam Singh stoically held his ground and claimed that the party would contest the upcoming elections under collective leadership and that the party has made no one as its face in the state.
