GMVN working on winter tourism & destination weddings

The Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) is working on its plans to encourage winter tourism and special destination weddings in select destinations in the State. Talking about these initiatives, the GMVN general manager Dayanand Saraswati said that the corporation is working on special winter tour packages. “We will offer various activities including rafting, trekking and visit to forest areas, among others. Our aim is for the tourists to enjoy the good environment of the State during the winter. GMVN will provide transport, accommodation and other facilities in these winter tour packages which will be three to four days long. Destinations will include the Ganga Resort in Rishikesh, Lansdowne and Chilla,” he said.

Regarding the destination wedding initiative, Saraswati said that the corporation will offer special wedding packages in three destinations- Triyuginarayan, Tilwada and Rishikesh. “We will make all arrangements for the marriages from decoration, catering and traditional marriage services as sought by the parties. The cost will depend on the services sought under the silver, gold and platinum packages,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that though the Char Dham Yatra and summer vacations bring a considerable number of pilgrims and tourists to Uttarakhand during the summer, the number of visitors dwindles considerably during the winter. If successful, the GMVN’s initiative could further boost tourism activities in the State. Earlier in 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to the people of India to hold destination weddings in Uttarakhand. The corporation’s effort is being seen as an effort to facilitate the vision of the PM.
