Godiyal seeks CBI probe recommendation status in Ankita Bhandari case

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal has said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not yet officially endorsed the recommendation for a probe made by the State government in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. He said that CBI’s no response even after 12-14 days of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s announcement raises suspicion of a cover up in the case.

Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of the State Congress on Friday, the PCC president said that when the CM had announced CBI probe after large scale protests in all parts of the State following new disclosures made by wife of a former BJP MLA in the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the Congress party had demanded that the terms of reference made in the recommendation to the CBI should be made public.

He said that the State government’s intentions regarding the investigation into the Ankita Bhandari murder case are unclear and the government has been trying to cover up the investigation since day one. He warned that the Congress party will resume the agitation if immediate action is taken in the case.

Godiyal said that the director general of State Police should inform the status of the investigation being made by IG ranked officer in the suicide case of Kashipur farmer Sukhwant Singh. He said that a simultaneous inquiry by Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat is also underway and the government should inform about its status as well as the action taken against the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Udham Singh Nagar in the case. The PCC president said that it is unfortunate that some of the police personnel involved in the case were transferred to Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts.

Godiyal said that the incident in which former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Garhwal MP Anil Baluni and some other leaders were denied to attend the tea party of Gadarpur MLA Arvind Pandey exposes the factionalism in ruling BJP. In response to a question regarding absence of state BJP in-charge Dushyant Gautam’s photo from the BJP’s banner and posters shows that somewhere the BJP is also believing that he is the VIP involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.
