Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the State government is committed to developing Uttarakhand as envisioned by statehood activists. He said this after paying homage to those who lost their lives in the Khatima shooting incident on the 30th anniversary of the case at the memorial in Khatima on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhami said that being a statehood activist himself, he can feel the pain of the families of activists. The people of Khatima and entire Uttarakhand still remember the Khatima incident with sorrow. “Activists laid their lives first in Khatima during the movement for a separate State and it is due to such sacrifices that the State of Uttarakhand was created. I assure you that every moment we are dedicating to developing Uttarakhand as desired by the statehood activists. We are committed to ensuring that the person in the remotest corner of the State accesses development. The government enacted a strict anti-copying law in the State, due to which nobody will be able to prevent youth with talent and capability from progressing ahead,” he said.

Paying homage to Bhagwan Singh Sirola, Pratap Singh, Rampal, Salim Ahmed, Gopichand, Dharmanand Bhatt and Paramjit Singh, who had died in the Khatima incident on September 1, 1994, he said that the people of Uttarakhand will not forget the pain the incident had caused. Referring to the works being undertaken by the government, the CM said that the focus is strengthening infrastructural facilities for connectivity, education, health and tourism and ensuring public welfare through various schemes. “We are boosting economic development by facilitating progress in industries, tourism and agriculture sectors where employment is also being generated. The government is working with innovations by introducing various policies including logistics policy, startup policy and service sector policy. Our government is grateful to statehood activists and implemented 10 per cent horizontal reservation for them and their dependents,” Dhami said.
