The State government on Friday issued a government order for the implementation of the Uttarakhand Clean Mobility Transition Policy that was approved in the cabinet meeting on Thursday. As per the order, the owners of the diesel operated city buses and Vikrams will be provided subsidy for scrapping or changing the vehicles to any clean fuelled vehicles like CNG or electric vehicles. The government has provided two alternatives to the city bus operators to get the benefit of the capital subsidies. The first option is that the government will provide a 50 per capital subsidy or a maximum of Rs 15 lakh of the ex-showroom price for scrapping their old vehicle and purchasing a new 25 to 32 seater CNG bus. The other option includes a 40 per cent subsidy or a maximum of Rs 12 lakh on surrendering the permit without scrapping the old vehicle and the purchase of a new CNG bus. If the bus owner chooses not to scrap their vehicle, the Transport department will issue a no-objection certificate to the owner for operating their old vehicle in any other State. The government is also providing a 40 per cent subsidy or a maximum Rs 12 lakh to Vikram operators to purchase new CNG vehicles like mini buses without scrapping the Vikram.
