The lecturers of the government schools of the State observed a chalk-down protest on Monday. On the call given by the Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh (RSS), thousands of teachers took part in the protest in the schools across the State. The RSS, the powerful association of government school lectures, is demanding cancellation of examinations for direct recruitment of headmasters in the State.
The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UkPSC) will soon conduct an examination for direct recruitment of headmasters on 692 posts. The serving teachers want that before conducting the examination the department should first undertake the process of departmental promotions. The spokesperson of the RSS Pranay Bahuguna said that the teachers will hold demonstrations on September 5 (Teachers’ Day) wearing black armbands. He said that on September 6 all the teachers will take leave to participate in protest at all the district headquarters.
Bahuguna added that on September 9, the members of the provincial and divisional executive will hold demonstrations at the State education directorate. He said that the teachers will start a relay hunger strike from September 10 and fast unto death from September 15 if their demands remain unfulfilled.
