Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has directed the vice chancellors of the State universities to place special emphasis on ensuring that the university examination system is completely secure and reliable. He gave the direction while chairing a review meeting with the VCs at Lok Bhawan on Tuesday.
He said that robust checking and re-checking should be ensured at every stage of the examination system with effective use of modern technology and artificial intelligence (AI). This will help in ensuring that the examination system remains completely leak-proof and error-free and it will help in strengthening its credibility.
The Governor said that universities are recognised not only by their buildings, but also by their academic achievements, research and innovation. He said that to perform better in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), universities must pay special attention to research, patents, innovation, quality infrastructure and academic excellence.
In the meeting, the Governor directed the VCs to pay special attention to how capable and prepared each student graduating from their universities is to effectively face the challenges of industry, employment, entrepreneurship and the 21st century. He said that the objective of universities should not be merely to confer degrees, but to create capable, self-confident and dedicated youth dedicated to nation-building, who can make meaningful contributions to the country’s development in accordance with the needs of the changing times.
Emphasizing the need to pay special attention to the moral education, mental health and overall well-being of the students, the Governor said that universities should develop such a positive and cooperative environment so that the personality of the students can develop in an all-round manner.
The Governor also directed that the recruitment process for faculty and staff in universities be completely transparent, fair and timely, in accordance with established standards.
In the meeting, all the VCs presented detailed information about the achievements of their respective universities, ongoing academic and research work and future plans.
Secretary to the governor Ravinath Raman, legal advisor Kaushal Kishore Shukla, special principal secretary Amit Sinha, secretary Deepak Kumar, SN Pandey, Ranjana Rajguru and VCs of the State universities attended the programme.
