The Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh on Friday praised Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ for the cleanliness drive ‘Swachchh Doon Sundar Doon’, which is carried out by him on the last three days of every week. The mayor started this campaign on October 1 last year under which he along with some sanitation workers and locals have been cleaning garbage from various streets, cleaning drains and disposing of roadside accumulated garbage into dustbins. , ‘Gama’ has conducted this campaign in a total of 59 wards so far. He conducted this campaign in the Bhagat Singh Colony ward on Friday along with the councillor Iliyas Ansari and municipal officials. He swept roads and collected garbage from roads. He also warned the encroachers in the area to remove their encroachments soon or the municipal corporation would take strict action against them.
The mayor also received a call from the governor Gurmit Singh during the campaign around 8 AM who praised him for conducting this cleanliness drive for the past five months. Singh said to the mayor that the campaign has been raising awareness among citizens and motivating them to give priority to cleanliness in their daily life. He stated that all citizens should contribute to keeping their city clean and get into the top cleanest cities of the country in Swachchh Survekshan 2023. The mayor also said that he has covered 59 wards in the city in the last five months under this campaign and the number of people supporting it has been consistently increasing. He said that improving the sanitation conditions of the city is one of his major goals and he would continue to work on it till Dehradun becomes the cleanest city in the country.
