The Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that books are the soul of any institution. He said that the books are not just a compilation of events but are the energy of thoughts, values and emotions, which not only give direction to the present but also act as a guiding light for future generations. He was addressing a programme on release of two books at Raj Bhawan, Nainital on Saturday.
The released books are ‘Kumaon University-History and Development’ written by head of department of Commerce of Kumaon university Atul Joshi and ‘Role of Women in Post-Independence Uttarakhand ( with special reference to Uttarakhand movement)’ written bySavitri Kaida Jantwal of department of History. The vice chancellor of the university, DS Rawat was also present on the occasion.
The governor said that the journey of Kumaon University is full of struggles and achievements, which has been academically preserved through these two books.
While praising the book written by Savitri Kaida Jantwal on the role of women in the Uttarakhand movement, the Governor said that this book is not only a document of women’s consciousness, but it also highlights the perspective in which women were not only participants in the movement, but they also emerged as carriers of change.
The HoD commerce, Joshi told the Governor that his book informs about the background of the establishment of Kumaon University.
