Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh emphasised the importance of promoting soldier welfare schemes in remote areas to ensure that more beneficiaries can take advantage of them. He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the secretary of the Kendriya Sainik Board brigadier Digvijay Singh Basera on Friday.
During the meeting, Basera updated the governor on the various activities and schemes being implemented by the Kendriya Sainik Board. He noted that Uttarakhand is one of the leading States in the country in implementing welfare schemes for ex-servicemen and that other States are also beginning to adopt these initiatives. Basera highlighted that the board consistently coordinates with State governments to ensure that the central schemes reach every eligible beneficiary.
Further, Singh voiced pride in the State’s model serving as an example for other States. He commended the digitalisation efforts within the board, calling them essential for enhancing transparency and efficiency. He also stressed the necessity of similar digital initiatives at the state level. Additionally, Singh reiterated the need to promote soldier welfare schemes in remote regions, ensuring that the families of servicemen in mountainous and inaccessible areas have access to these services.
