The State government has banned making reels and videography within a 50-metre radius of the Char Dham temples. This decision has been taken considering the inconvenience caused to other pilgrims and to maintain the sanctity of the pilgrimage. Chief secretary Radha Raturi informed that there is no prohibition on carrying mobile phones but these cannot be used to make reels.
In the directions sent to the secretary of the Culture, Endowment, Pilgrimage Management and Religious Fair department, the chief secretary has pointed out that a considerable number of pilgrims from all States are visiting the Char Dham. The State government has made arrangements to enable proper Darshan for the pilgrims. However, it has been noticed that some people are making videos/reels in the temple complex for social media. As people gather in one part of the temple complex to watch this, devotees face inconvenience in paying obeisance to the deity in the temple. Considering this, a complete ban on videography and making reels within 50 metres of the Char Dham temples should be implemented for the convenience of the devotees.
