Govt claim of free treatment of dengue patients false: Mahara

Sunday, 10 SEPTEMBER 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Objecting to the claim of free treatment of dengue affected people made by the State government, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that a sum of Rs 1,700 per day is being charged from the dengue patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the government hospitals. Interacting with the media persons at the Rajiv Bhawan here on Saturday Mahara said that dengue has assumed epidemic proportions in the provisional State capital Dehradun and other areas but the State government is continuing to adopt a sloppy approach in dealing with it. He said that a sum of Rs 40 lakh is provided to the municipal bodies for fogging but it is not being done. The PCC president said that the hospitals are overflowing with patients and the demand for blood and platelets has increased manifolds. He said that the Health department has issued an advisory according to which the platelets will be administered to the patient only when the platelet count drops below 20,000. Mahara said that everyone knows that the condition of patients becomes serious when the platelet count drops to 30,000 and transfusion of platelet is needed at this stage. He also objected to the decision of the department that the tests of dengue done in the private labs will be corroborated in the government hospitals. The PCC president said that the government machinery was not prepared to deal with the dengue season this year.

On the Bageshwar by-election result, the PCC president said that the result is a moral loss for the ruling BJP as it misused official machinery in the elections. He said that the Congress secured 10,000 more votes than it got in the Assembly election of 2022. The BJP fought the election on sympathy factor but even then its candidate could not secure more votes than last year, he opined.
