Govt decides to change special prosecution officer in Ankita Bhandari murder case

Sunday, 16 July 2023 | PNS | PAURI

The State government has changed the special prosecution officer in the Ankita Bhandari murder case on the request of the victim’s father. Informing the media about this, the Pauri district magistrate Ashish Chauhan on Saturday said that Ankita Bhandari’s father has been informed about the decision of the government. The parents of the victim have thanked the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the State government for this decision.

It is pertinent to mention that the victim’s father Virendra Bhandari had submitted a memorandum to the Pauri district magistrate on July 6. Bhandari had demanded in the memorandum that the special prosecution officer Jitendra Rawat should be removed from the case before the next hearing in the case. The district magistrate had sent the memorandum to the chief minister after conducting an inquiry into this matter.

The family of Ankita Bhandari had alleged that the special prosecution officer Jitendra Rawat was not doing justice with his responsibility in the case and was trying to save the accused in the murder case. After many requests for changing the special prosecution the district magistrate taking cognisance of the matter, got an inquiry conducted in the matter and sent the memorandum of the victim’s father with an inquiry statement to the government for the perusal of the chief minister.

The parents, family and those who raised their voices against the murder of Ankita Bhandari have expressed their satisfaction at the decision of the government to change the special prosecution officer.
