The National Students Union of India (NSUI) , the student wing of the Congress party has accused the State government for protecting the interests of private schools and the book publishers.
A delegation of NSUI led by its State president Vikas Negi met the director of School Education at his office on Friday and submitted a memorandum demanding action on the schools engaging in open loot of the parents.
The NSUI president Vikas Negi said that the private schools have affected a steep hike in the fees this year due to which the parents are finding it difficult to pay the fee of their wards. He said that the general public is already reeling under an onslaught of increase in prices and the increase in school fee has further increased their burden.
Negi said that some private schools are changing their syllabus every year due to which the parents are forced to purchase new books every year. He alleged that there is a nexus between the private publishers, book shops and the private schools which are engaged in looting the parents of the students.
The NSUI leaders demanded that the government should ensure that admissions in all the schools are through the Right to Education and it should put a rein over the private schools.
