Govt ignoring dependents of freedom fighters: Mahara

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has alleged that the BJP government is consistently ignoring the dependents of the freedom fighters due to which they are forced to move from pillar to post. He was addressing the meeting of the State Congress freedom fighters dependents cell at the State headquarters of the party here on Tuesday. 

Remembering the freedom fighters, the PCC president said that we are breathing in a free country due to the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. He said that the entire country is indebted towards the freedom fighters. He said that the country made rapid strides in development after independence under the leadership of the Congress party and the country became an economic power. Mahara said that the Congress party always maintained an atmosphere of communal harmony and brotherhood. He said that though the Congress party is not in power now, it has always put pressure on the centre and the State governments to work in the right direction.

 The PCC president said that the situation on the boundaries of the country is a cause of concern but the brave soldiers of the country are always ready to defend the nation.

 The president of the freedom fighters dependents cell Murli Manohar demanded that the cell should be reconstituted at national level and the concerns of the dependents of freedom fighters should be included in the election manifesto of Congress party. He said that the Congress should raise the demand of granting 10 per percent horizontal reservation to the dependents in government jobs in the State assembly.

 The State vice president (Organisation) of Congress Mathura Dutt Joshi, general secretary Mahendra Singh Negi, chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni and others attended the meeting.
