The media panelist of Uttarakhand Congress Rajiv Mehrishi has said that the recent incident in which the Guptkashi resident Vinita Nautiyal was attacked by a group of monkeys and seriously injured reflects the poor health services and the lack of any plan on part of the state government to tackle human- animal conflict.
He said that Nautiyal was first taken to the hospital of Guptkashi and then to Srinagar and finally she was referred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh. Mehrishi said that the incident shows the poor condition of the health facilities of the state. Taking a dig at the Uttarakhand government for making claims of plans to prevent migration from the mountainous areas of the state, the Congress leader said that the increasing cases of the human- animal conflict would further force the people to migrate in search of safety. He said that the state government should make a detailed plan to prevent the cases of animal attacks on the human population. Mehrishi said that the State government is repeatedly making claims on making the state a developed and ideal state in the year 2025 but sadly it lacks a plan or policy to prevent attacks of animals. He said that Congress in its election manifesto had declared to make such a policy with the help of experts of Wildlife Institute of India.
