Govt might keep winter session short to escape opposition’s fury: Mahara

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that in view of a slew of the scams and the deteriorating law and order condition in the State, the Uttarakhand government would try to shorten the duration of the coming winter session of the Assembly. He said that the opposition Congress would assertively raise the issue of the murder of Ankita Bhandari, the efforts being done to save the so called VIP in the case, the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) examination paper leak case, the backdoor appointments in the Vidhan Sabha secretariat and scams in appointments in many departments in the Assembly.
The party would raise the isseue of the the arrest of terrorists in Haridwar by the UP police, murder by the mining mafia and murder of wife of a Jyesth Pramukh in Udham Singh Nagar by UP police in the house. Mahara said that the government would definitely be on the back foot in the house on all these issues. The PCC president raised apprehension that the State government would try to finish the session in two days by using the excuse of the absence of business. He averred that the government is afraid to face the house and the BJP is gripped by fear. The PCC president raised a question on the propriety of holding a meeting of the leaders of legislature parties before the house is summoned. He said that the meeting was insignificant since the venue of the session and the dates on which it would be held would be decided by the State cabinet.
