After the provisional State capital Dehradun, the scourge of encroachments has spread in the summer capital Gairsain.
An investigation report of the joint team of the Revenue department and Nagar Panchayat has revealed that encroachment of government land has occurred in Gairsain. The investigation was conducted on the orders of the State Information Commission. However, citing lack of time, the investigation team conducted the survey in only a part of Gairsain.
Gairsain resident Radha Krishan Kala had filed an appeal in the SIC after demanding information on the status of encroachment in Gairsain. While hearing the appeal, the State Information Commissioner Yogesh Bhatt had directed the sub divisional magistrate of Gairsain to set up a joint team of revenue and Nagar Panchayat for encroachments in Gairsain.
The report confirmed the complaints of encroachment in Gairsain. Bhatt said that the findings of the report should be taken seriously and encroachments in Gairsain are a major challenge for the future. He directed the SDM to prepare a comprehensive report on encroachment after doing a survey of the total area under Gairsain.
Bhatt also directed that the report should be brought to the notice of chief secretary, secretary revenue, secretary urban development and district magistrate of Chamoli.
