The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat announced that all government schools in the State will be linked to the Eat Right campaign. He said this during the inauguration of the Eat Right workshop organised on Monday by the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) department, the Food Safety Standards Authority of India and the Education department.
Rawat emphasised that, along with quality education, access to clean, safe and nutritious food is also crucial. To achieve this, all government schools in the State will be integrated into the Eat Right campaign and training will be provided to canteen operators and cooks in these schools. The initiative aims to transform schools into Eat Right campuses by establishing a hygienic food system. As part of the Mid-Day Meal scheme, nutritious Eat Right Thalis will now be served to children in schools, including millets and local dishes. Rawat noted that these nutrient-rich meals can help prevent various diseases, particularly being effective in combating tuberculosis.
To further promote awareness about proper nutrition, the Eat Right campaign will be implemented periodically in schools and health and wellness ambassadors will be appointed in all schools, he said. The minister also directed the officials concerned to conduct food safety training for cooks in a mission-driven manner, in collaboration with the FDA. He also directed the concerned officials to obtain the Eat Right school certification by the year 2025 for the schools providing mid-day meals.
