Govt sets target to purchase nine lakh metric tonnes of rice & paddy

The Food and Civil Supplies minister Rekha Arya held a review meeting with the departmental officials regarding the preparations for procurement of Kharif crop 2022-23. She said that the procurement of paddy would start in the state from October 1 and the price of normal paddy and Grade A paddy has been fixed at Rs 2,040 and Rs 2,060 per quintal respectively. She also said that the department has set a target to purchase nine lakh metric tonnes of rice this year. She instructed the officials to complete all the preparations on time like appointing necessary staff like computer operators and watchmen at various paddy procurement centres as the procurement of paddy will commence from October 1.
The minister also directed the officials to ensure the installation of a proper weighing scale to carry out the procurement process across the centres from next month. She asked the officials to buy paddy from government departments from October 1 to 15 and then later through commission agents. The department has set a target to purchase nine lakh metric tonnes of paddy too. Arya informed that four agencies- Food Department, Cooperation Department, NAFED and NCCF have been nominated for procurement of paddy and 257 procurement centres have been opened in Kharif season this year. She has directed the district magistrates of Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Nainital districts to provide the data of how many hectares of paddy was sown in the current season and how much it was produced to the department. She also gave directions to prepare an action plan for the purchase of local products like Ragi, Urad, Maize etc for which the central government has already issued a support price.
