Govt starts preparations for 3 tier Panchayat elections

The elections for the three tier Panchayati Raj bodies in the State are likely to be held in the month of April. The State government has started making preparations for these elections. There are 7,823 village Panchayats in the State. The elections will be held for 59,357 ward members of village Panchayats, 3,157 block Panchayat members and 385 district Panchayat members.
The State Election Commission (SEC) is likely to announce the dates of the Panchayat elections in the State after the completion of the examinations of Uttarakhand Board in the third week of March.
The process of reservation in the Panchayat Raj bodies of the State is currently underway. The single member dedicated commission headed by Justice BS Verma will submit its report to the State government.
The Panchayati Raj department has also completed the process of delimitation of the district, block and village Panchayats in all the districts of the State except Haridwar.
The tenure of the Panchayati Raj bodies in the State ended in November 2024. After which the State government appointed administrators in the Panchayati Raj bodies in all the 12 districts except Haridwar. Recently the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had sought a status report from the State administration on holding the Panchayat elections in the State.
