Govt to allocate Rs 100 crore for construction of residential buildings for police personnel

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that Rs 100 crore will be allocated in the next financial year for the construction of residential buildings for police personnel on the occasion of the Police Smriti Diwas on Monday. Besides this, the nutritious diet allowance for officers and workers working in the Police department will be increased by Rs 100. The uniform allowance for inspectors and assistant sub inspectors will be increased by Rs 3,500. Also, the high altitude allowance provided to the police personnel and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel posted at an altitude of more than 9,000 feet will be raised from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per day. The CM along with officiating director general of police Abhinav Kumar paid homage to police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty at a ceremony held at the Police Line martyrs’ memorial in Dehradun. The event was also attended by the former Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, senior police officers and others. Addressing the event, Dhami talked about the crucial role of State police and paramilitary forces in maintaining law and order across the country. He said that in the past year, 216 personnel from various State and Central forces across India, including four from the Uttarakhand Police, laid down their lives while on duty. Acknowledging Uttarakhand’s geographical and strategic significance, he emphasised the heightened responsibility of the State police in ensuring safety and security. Dhami said that in the past year, the State has taken steps to improve police infrastructure, with Rs 150 crore invested in the construction of 380 residential units. Ongoing projects for police stations, outposts, fire stations and administrative buildings in police lines are being executed at a cost of Rs 42 crore. The State also approved the purchase of 1,105 vehicles for the police force to enhance mobility and response times.
He also mentioned the State’s efforts to support the families of deceased police personnel, with financial assistance exceeding Rs 15 crore distributed under various welfare schemes. This year, 38 family members of deceased personnel were provided with employment and 55 families received financial aid of Rs one lakh each from the police martyrs’ fund. The DGP also addressed the gathering and praised the police force’s dedication in tackling issues such as drug trafficking, cybercrime and disaster management. Besides this, 197 police personnel were also promoted with the process underway for the promotion of 524 more, he said. Kumar informed that the State also introduced scholarships for meritorious children of police personnel, benefiting 377 students this year with grants totalling Rs 28 lakh.
