Govt to provide Rs 1.50 lakh immediate relief to affected families in Joshimath

The Centre has already deployed two contingents of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) in Joshimath and one contingent has been kept ready in Gauchar. Four contingents of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in Joshimath. The Central government has given instructions to its various technical institutions that the investigation/survey proceedings being done in relation to the disaster in Joshimath should be completed in a time-bound manner. Further, the State government will provide Rs 1.5 lakh assistance to affected families for now. Stating this, Disaster Management secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha said that so far 131 families comprising 462 people have been temporarily relocated due to security reasons. So far the number of buildings in which cracks have been noticed is 723. Gandhinagar, Singhdhar, Manoharbagh, and Sunil areas have been declared unsafe. A total of 86 buildings are located in the unsafe area. He further informed the media that a mandate is being issued by the State government to allot Rs one lakh as advance for displacement and Rs 50,000 for transporting goods and other expenses. An amount of Rs 11 crore has already been released for relief and rescue operations in the Chamoli district.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Sinha said that there are 344 rooms in Joshimath with a capacity for 1,425 people and 491 rooms in Pipalkoti with a capacity for 2,205 people which have been marked to provide temporary accommodation to affected people. Under the relief amount distributed to the affected at the rate of Rs 5,000 per family, a total of Rs 2.65 lakh has been distributed to 53 affected families for domestic relief material. For severe/completely damaged buildings, Rs 13 lakh has been distributed to 10 affected people. Further, for the beginning of works immediately for drainage and prevention of toe-erosion in Joshimath, the required action is being taken after receiving a proposal from the Irrigation department for completion in EPC mode. An amount of Rs 214.43 lakh is being released to the power department for the transfer of disaster-affected HT/LT lines and transformers in Joshimath.
