Govt tramples parliamentary norms over ‘leaked’ land law amendment approval: Arya

The Leader of the Opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya expressed concerns over the disregard for parliamentary traditions shown after the news of the State Cabinet’s approval of the amended bill to the land law became public amidst the session. “This stands contrary to the established parliamentary norms. No Cabinet briefing is done separately when the Assembly is in session.  It seems that the Cabinet approval to the amendment bill of the important land law has been leaked to the media at the behest of some powerful persons. This amounts to a serious breach of the parliamentary propriety,” the veteran leader said.

Addressing the specifics of the land laws, Arya stated that he would comment only after the bill is presented in the House. “However, reports suggest that the government is reversing some changes implemented in 2018 which my party had opposed,” he said, adding that post-the much-criticised changes, vast tracts of land in the State had been sold to outsiders.

He urged the government to release a White Paper detailing how much land has been transferred since 2018 till date and to whom. “Things should be made transparent to the people.  The people have the right to know these facts,” he averred.
