Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Friday that the State government will not rest until every culprit involved in Haldwani’s Vanbhulpura violence is put behind bars. Authorities will take strict action against those who are found guilty of causing violence and disturbing harmony, law and order in the area. The government will recover the money from those rioters who caused damage to government property during the Vanbhulpura riot. He stated this while addressing the public after laying the foundation stone of Kathgodam Roadways Bus Terminal in Haldwani on Friday. Dhami claimed that a dangerous conspiracy of land jihad had been hatched on government land for a long time in the holy land of Uttarakhand. These lands were being occupied by some people in the name of turning them into so-called religious places.  He informed that the government has so far freed about 3,500 acres of land from encroachment by consistently undertaking the anti- encroachment campaign. This campaign will continue in the future too, he added. He also said that some people initially had doubts regarding the action taken by the government on land Jihad, anti-copying law, uniform civil code and the laws regarding religious conversion.  However, their perception changed after observing the results of these initiatives at the ground level. The CM also handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh for journalists whose two-wheeler vehicles were damaged in the Vanbhulpura violence. The Vanbhulpura violence occurred on February 8 when authorities demolished a madarsa and a namaz site built illegally on government land. At least seven people were killed in the violence and over 100 persons were injured. It also led to property damage worth over Rs two crore.
