The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that an anti-encroachment campaign is being undertaken across the State on the orders of the court. However, the State government fully sympathises with the people who have been conducting their livelihood in these areas for years. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt alleged that the Congress is spreading confusion in the public and preaching on this issue whereas this is the result of an amendment bill brought by the Congress government. Bhatt said, “As per the amendment bill brought in 2014, any construction on five metres on both sides of the road will be considered encroachment. Today the Congress is advising on land category and various technical aspects. However, this situation may not have arisen had it studied the geographical conditions of the mountainous regions while bringing the amendment,” the BJP State president said.
He alleged that in the Uttarakhand Roadside Land Control (Amendment) Act, the Congress had intentionally ignored the interests of the common people and is now pretending to stand with the people when they are facing problems. He said that the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is executing various schemes for employment. The people are paying the price for the policies of the Congress but the government is alert and sympathises with the affected people. The government has made it clear that a solution will be found in this regard soon, Bhatt added.
