Following flak from various quarters, the Uttarakhand government has withdrawn its decision to give licence of bar to the households. The order for withholding the decision was issued by the excise commissioner HC Semwal on Wednesday. Under the new excise policy the department had made a provision to provide licences to individuals under which they can legally keep 50 litre of liquor in their houses. The individuals were provided licenses on a fee of Rs 12,000 under which they were allowed to keep eight litre of IMFL, 18 litres of imported liquor, nine litres of wine and 15 litres of beer.
Terming the decision as a victory for the stand of Congress party, the spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni said that the policy was impractical and detrimental for the interests of the State.
