Addressing the five-day workshop on Green Landscape Management Plan (GLMP) organized by the Watershed Management Directorate under the Green Ag (JAF-6) project here on Thursday, the representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in India, Takayuki Hagiwara appreciated the efforts being made under the Green-Ag project in Uttarakhand and said that community-based participation, institutional capacity building and landscape-based development approach would ensure long-term benefits for farmers and rural communities along with conservation of natural resources.
On the occasion, the secretary, Jalgam and chief project director, Dilip Jawalkar said that the successful implementation of GLMP would play an important role in the scientific management of natural resources, climate-friendly agriculture, biodiversity conservation and strengthening the livelihood of rural communities. “Effective monitoring and accountability at every level is very important for the success of the project,” he added.
Technical sessions during the five-day workshop covered institutional, technical and financial preparedness for effective implementation of the Landscape Management Plan, Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), standard operating procedures (SOPs), monitoring and reporting systems, accountability and implementation strategies for various project components. Through focused group discussions and participatory exercises, a common action plan for implementation was firmed up and coordination at various levels was further strengthened.
The secretary, Jalgam discussed in detail with the FAO representatives on the strategy for successful implementation of the project.
During the meeting, the project director, Kahkashan Naseem reviewed the various technical and institutional aspects of the workshop in detail, emphasising the need for effective, timely and result-oriented implementation of the GLMP, strengthening departmental coordination and institutional preparedness. She directed all concerned officials and the project team to work in coordination in accordance with the fotmulated action plan.
