The Uttarakhand Transport department will issue green cards online to vehicles with up to 10 seats for the Char Dham Yatra. The regional transport officer (administration), Dinesh Pathoi disclosed that the commercial vehicle drivers can apply for a green card online by filling in required details and paying fees online. The commercial drivers of vehicles with up to 10 seats will get auto-approval for the green card while the drivers of the vehicles with more than 10 seats will have to bring their vehicle for the fitness test in the transport office, informed Pathoi.
According to him, about 70 per cent of vehicles that are registered for green cards during the Char Dham Yatra are small vehicles and the auto-approval procedure of the vehicles with up to 10 seats will save the time of the applicants as well as the transport office. He further informed that the department recently held a meeting with the operators of commercial vehicles in Rishikesh and gathered the necessary data and feedback to ensure the availability of sufficient number of vehicles for travellers during the Char Dham Yatra.
The department will also start raising awareness from April through posters and hoardings appealing to travellers to avoid travelling by unauthorised vehicles, asserted Pathoi. Moreover, he added that the department has done all the preparations and will set the check posts at the marked locations one week before the start of the Char Dham Yatra.
