GTCC finalises registration process for five sports in 38th National Games

The Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) has finalised the registration process for five sports included in the upcoming 38th National Games. These are handball, beach handball, taekwondo, volleyball and beach volleyball. GTCC chairperson Sunaina Kumari has sent a letter regarding this to the president, secretary and treasurer of the National Sports Federation (NSF), State Olympic Associations (SOA), Union Territory Olympic Associations (UTOA) and State Sports and Cultural Boards (SSCB). Additionally, the GTCC has set the final entry date for State sports associations. They will ensure their entries are submitted in three phases from January 3 to January 13.
According to officials, the registration system details include the NSF providing the names of eligible athletes to the respective State Sports Associations, adhering to the guidelines of their specific sports. The NSF will also share the list of sports with the respective SSA.
Further, the top seven teams from the 37th National Games, held in Goa in 2023, for handball and beach handball will be invited to participate in the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand. The selection of athletes in taekwondo will take place in Dehradun under the selection committee appointed by the IOC/GTCC. In team events, the selection committee will rank the teams, with the top eight teams (men and women), each consisting of three athletes, qualifying. These trials will follow standardised and transparent procedures to ensure fair representation of eligible athletes, they added
The officials further added that for volleyball and beach volleyball, State teams (excluding Gujarat) that participated in the 36th National Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in 2022 will be invited to compete in the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand. The State Olympic Associations and the relevant State Volleyball Associations have the authority to conduct team selection trials for volleyball and beach volleyball.
Regarding the national games preparations, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the organisation of the games being held in Uttarakhand for the first time, is progressing in a phased manner. The State government is committed to hosting the National Games in a grand manner, he said.
