Guest teachers stage indefinite protest with dhol-damau, demand pay hike & secure future

The guest teachers staged a rally from Parade Ground to the chief minister’s residence along with traditional instruments like dhol and damau on Friday. However, the police intercepted the march at Kanak Chowk and when the teachers attempted to proceed, they were blocked by barricades on Subhash Road, leading to a heated exchange and scuffle with the police. The rally caused significant traffic jams, prompting the police to take extra measures to clear the roads. The guest teachers in Uttarakhand have been protesting since August 2, demanding job security and better benefits. They started the protest after the Education department appointed 749 new guest teachers in 11 districts, excluding Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. The highest number of appointments were made in Almora (157), followed by Pithoragarh (112), Chamoli (101) and Pauri (88). This move agitated the current guest teachers, who claimed to be frustrated by delay in having their demands met and being ignored by the government. The protesting teachers sat down on the road and raised slogans against the authorities, stating that they will remain in Dehradun to protest against the government until their demands are met.
