A woman from Gujarat drowned while bathing in the Ganga near Mastram Baba Ghat near Lakshmanjhula in Rishikesh on Tuesday morning. The officials said that the woman identified as Neelu Thakkar had arrived in the Lakshmanjhula area along with her family on Tuesday. Her family members informed that she started bathing in the Ganga when the water level suddenly rose and she was swept away, as per the officials. They said that a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was called to the spot to carry out the rescue operation.
The team searched for the woman in all possible locations for hours but could not find her till late evening. The officials said that SDRF will resume the search on Wednesday. Besides this, SDRF also recovered the body of a 21-year-old young man who had drowned in the Nagud stream in Tehri on July 21. His body was recovered from Tehri lake on Tuesday after some locals observed a body there.
