Gurudwara team conducts inspection of Hemkund route

A Gurudwara team which had gone to conduct an inspection of the route to Hemkund Sahib in the Chamoli district, returned from Ghanghariya- the main halt on the pilgrimage. The team crossed a large glacier at Ramdhungi to reach Ghanghariya.
According to sources, at Ramdhungi two kilometres before Ghanghariya, a large piece of glacier has broken and landed on the route. This block measures more than 20 feet high and is on the pilgrimage route.
Gurudwara manager Sewa Singh said that the team crossed this glacier to reach Ghanghariya. At the same time, work is underway on the Govindghat bridge, which connects to Hemkund Sahib. The Public Works Department is putting up a Bailey’s bridge at this location.
The department has completed alignment on one side and started installing the metal pieces of the bridge, sources informed. It is pertinent to mention here that the pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib and Lokpal is slated to start this year in May.
