The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya planted saplings at an Anganwadi Centre in celebration of Harela on Tuesday. The trees were planted as part of the ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Nam’ programme. During the event, Singh emphasised the significance of the Harela festival in promoting a connection with nature and the importance of trees. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged everyone to plant a tree in memory of their mothers, a call that is being embraced by many. Further, Arya expressed her delight in celebrating the Harela festival with her Anganwadi sisters and highlighted the campaign’s wide-reaching success. She emphasised the parallels between the life-giving nature of trees and plants and the guidance provided by mothers and was pleased to see widespread participation in the campaign. The Harela festival not only provides an opportunity to connect with nature but also teaches us how to enhance the environment around us, she said.
