Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh interacted with the jawans of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Army and the Border Roads Organisation at Malari in the region bordering China in Chamoli district on Thursday. The governor appreciated the manner in which the soldiers and other personnel discharge their duties with sincerity amidst the difficult conditions in such high altitude areas. “We and the nation are safe because of them. The nation is proud of the enthusiasm and passion of the jawans posted along the borders,” said Singh. He also talked to the personnel about their problems and the challenges they face.
He said that the civilians living in border regions are also guards, adding that the borders cannot be secured without ensuring the safety of the villages in the border region. Efforts are being made to provide drinking water, electricity, road, health services, communication and other basic facilities in the border villages under the Vibrant Village programme, he added. After interacting with the jawans, the governor visited Badrinath where he prayed for the prosperity of the nation and its people. He also talked to the pilgrims and checked the arrangements for the pilgrimage. Later, the governor sought information from the officials about the progress of works being executed under the Badrinath masterplan. The governor also visited Kedarnath and paid obeisance to the lord at the temple.
