In latest Dehradun news, during his visit of Jhajra village in Sahaspur block of Dehradun district, the Governor Lieutenant General (Rtd) Gurmit Singh reviewed the status of several projects pertaining to the anganwadi centre, health sub- centre and schools among others. He reached an upper primary school. There he not just interacted with the students but assumed the role of teacher for them. He inspired them to set lofty goals in their lives and strive tirelessly and with dogged perseverance to achieve them. He then went to an anganwadi centre and inquired into its functioning from the centre’s supervisor aside from interacting with the children. While visiting the health sub-centre located in the village, he took detailed information about the vaccination of the children and other facilities. The ASHA workers and those working in anganwadi centres told the Governor about the very low honorarium they have been receiving for their services. On hearing this, the Governor assured that he would look into this matter and initiate appropriate actions. He also visited the stalls put up by the women-run self-help groups and took information in details about the handicrafts the stalls were showcasing. He said that these handicrafts were of world-class quality, but added that these needed appropriate branding and packaging. He directed the officials concerned to help the women in this matter and asked the women to focus on online marketing. He also spoke to the village panchayat functionaries and heard about their problems. They told him about the inundation of the village during monsoon every year.
During his visit of the village, Singh reminded all that he has adopted this village and would go all-out for its development.
