Habitual thief arrested for stealing jewellery

The Raipur police have solved a burglary and arrested a 24-year-old habitual thief on Saturday who allegedly stole gold and silver jewellery from a house in Shiv Ganga Enclave. The accused has been identified as Sumit Sharma, a resident of Kedarpuram MDDA Colony in Dehradun. Police said that he had earlier been sent to jail in a theft case.

According to the police, the theft took place on July 3 at the house of Amar Lata in Shiv Ganga Enclave near IT Park. She filed a complaint after finding that gold and silver jewellery had been stolen from her house. An FIR was registered and a police team started investigating the case.

During the investigation, police checked CCTV footage from the area, verified people living nearby and questioned around 230 people. A CCTV camera near the house captured a suspicious man on the day of the theft. Using the footage and other evidence, police identified and arrested Sharma. Police said that during questioning, the accused admitted to committing the theft. Officers also recovered the stolen items, including gold rings, earrings, ear studs, silver jewellery, a wristwatch, a USD 100 note and a laptop.
