The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has alleged that three back to back incidents in Haldwani have exposed the hollowness of the claims of women safety and empowerment made by the State government. Interacting with the mediapersons at the headquarters of the State Congress on Saturday Dasauni said that in the month of August, 55 inmates of Haldwani jail were found to be infected with AIDS but the administration has remained a mute spectator. She said that in October a shocking incident of sexual exploitation of hearing and visually impaired girls in a residential institute came to the fore in which the manager of the institute was involved. In this case the manager Shayam Singh Dhanak was involved in sexual harassment of 113 students all of whom were aged under 18 years. Dasauni claimed that due to the influence of Dhanak, the voices of harassed children have been stifled.
Dasauni said that in the latest case it is learnt that a minor girl was being allegedly raped from last many days in a child protection home in Haldwani. She said that two women employees of the protection home were also allegedly involved in the case. The Congress leader said that these incidents are like a tight slap on the claims of women safety made by the BJP government. She said that it is very much possible that more girls of the child protection home were exploited.
She demanded that a thorough investigation of the case should be done so that all those involved in the serious crime are brought to book.
