PNS | HALDWANI

Haldwani mayor Gajraj Singh Bisht got a smart meter installed for free at his residence to upgrade his old electricity meter. Referring to the objections raised by the Congress at the installation of smart meters, he said that it is natural for those characterised by dishonesty and corruption to feel uneasy by good governance.

Stating that as Haldwani’s first citizen it is his responsibility to install a smart meter first, Bisht said that a mobile application will be provided to each consumer with the smart meter which will also enable one to monitor electricity consumption every hour.

After getting the smart meter installed at his residence, the mayor said that the reading automatically gets registered in the billing system and the consumer will be able to get an online bill without any delay. He said that such meters will also resolve the issue faced due to manual reading in the past wherein incorrect amounts were sent in bills to the consumers. In case of any error in the smart meter, the executing agency and sub centre will receive information about it and the meter will be changed. The consumers will not have to visit the department’s office to get a faulty meter replaced or for corrections in the bill, Bisht said.

He further said that even when the consumer goes away from home, he will be able to view the electricity consumption at home using the mobile application. Considering the power consumption, the consumer will be able to regulate it as required. Information about any power cuts will also be received in advance by the consumer through the application, the mayor added.
