Traffic movement will be completely banned on the Nainital-Haldwani National Highway from 8 pm to 8 am from July 10 till October to facilitate laying sewer treatment pipelines. However, there would be no restriction on the movement of vehicles meant for essential services like milk, gas and ambulance during this period. The representatives of the hotels’ and traders’ associations were apprised of the decision by the district traffic department’s senior officers at a meeting held in Nainital.
Giving information on the matter, a senior district traffic officer said that banning vehicular movement on the NH from 8 pm to 8 am is an imperative move due to the work of laying sewer lines along the stretch on Haldwani Road till Russy Bypass that is scheduled to start on July 10 and expected to be completed by October-end. “As the Haldwani-Nainital National Highway will be closed till Russy Bypass, the commuters who are to enter Nainital city after 8 pm will be allowed to enter the city via Barapathar,” he added.
During the meeting, the representatives of hotels’ and traders’ associations said that the district administration and police must ensure that the tourists and the locals coming to Nainital do not face any problem due to the traffic ban during this period.
