Haldwani police arrest murderer of police constable’s wife

The Haldwani police arrested the murderer of the wife of a police constable, on Monday who was killed in broad daylight on November 3. Mamta, the 35-year-old wife of police constable Shankar Singh Bisht who is presently posted at the Bankheda police station in Bazpur was murdered on November 3 at their house in the Kalika colony in Haldwani. The Nainital senior superintendent of police (SSP) Pankaj Bhatt formed teams of experienced officers to investigate the case.
The circle officer (Haldwani) Bhupendra Singh Dhoni told The Pioneer that the accused named Ashraf lives in Kiccha in Udham Singh Nagar and had worked in the house of the victim as a worker about two years ago. He was nabbed on a tip-off from informers on Monday. Dhoni said that the accused has confessed to the robbery and murdering the victim. The CO said that as per the accused, he was in heavy debt and needed money so he decided to rob the house of the constable. He killed Mamta in broad daylight and robbed about six tolas of gold jewellery and Rs 3,000 cash. His arrival and departure from the murder scene were caught on CCTV, added Dhoni. The police have recovered the loot along with the hammer the accused used to kill the victim.
Moreover, the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar has also announced a reward of Rs 1,00,000 for the police team which nabbed the murderer. The DIG of Kumaon Range Nilesh Bharney, Kaladhungi MLA, Nainital SSP and Haldwani Mayor also announced cash rewards of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 21,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively for the police team.
