Hands on training on animal taxonomy organised by USERC commences

The training on animal taxonomy by Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Centre (USERC) in collaboration with Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) commenced in the ZSI auditorium on Monday. A total of 100 students from 10 educational institutions of Uttarakhand are receiving training, the organisers said.
Speaking on the occasion, the director of USERC, Anita Rawat said that USERC has been organising training programmes in collaboration with different research institutes in various subjects to facilitate the skill development of students. The secretary, programme implementation department, Government of Uttarakhand, Deepak Kumar who was the chief guest of the programme said that training on animal taxonomy would help students study animals systematically.
The head of the department of ZSI Gaurav Sharma said that his institute is engaged in collecting and preserving classified data related to the extinct species of animals and the existing species while the former director of DRDO Tezpur Vijayveer delivered a lecture on an overview on animal taxonomy and opportunities for researchers in this field. Besides, scientist Aftab Ahmed provided hands-on training on the topic of collection, preservation, observation and identification of fauna.
