In latest news from Uttarakhand, the visiting professor of Kumaun University Robert J Hanlon who is a renowned teacher of Thompson Rivers University Canada delivered an online lecture on China: Human Security and Politics of Corporate Social Responsibility. Many scholars from the country and also abroad participated in the programme that was conducted by the director of the KU visiting professor directorate Prof Lalit Tiwari.
Hanlon said that China’s ascendancy as a great economic power has given rise to a new equation at the global level and also raised the question that if businesses define China’s policy, then would the corporate social responsibility (CSR) being undertaken by those businesses be called a part of China’s comprehensive political policy. The celebrated professor explained in detail the theoretical and practical meanings of human security. During this, the teacher alluded to the capability approach enunciated by Prof Amartya Sen. While explaining the theoretical aspect of CSR, Hanlon said that on one hand, the corporates spend a part of their profit in the general interest while, on the other hand, they are working to improve their image with the money being spent.
In the lecture, 60 scholars, including the director DSB Campus Prof Neeta Bora Sharma, Prof Geeta Tiwari, Saurabh and Jyoti Kandpal were present.
