Harela celebrated by UCOST at Vigyan Dham

The Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), Uttarakhand chapter and Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS) jointly organised a tree plantation event to mark Harela at UCOST, Vigyan Dham.
At the inauguration of this plantation programme, the council’s senior scientific officer Aparna Sharma coordinated the session and welcomed the gathering to the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the UCOST joint director DP Uniyal talked about the background of the Harela festival, its significance and the traditional knowledge behind this. SPECS secretary Brijmohan Sharma shared his experiences about the plantation drive organised by them in Dehradun. He suggested that the most important thing in a tree plantation drive is to communicate the message properly to the community and provide them with plants which they need.
Dehradun Science City advisor GS Rautela gave detailed information about prayers and rituals followed during Harela. UCOST senior scientific officer Ashutosh Mishra delivered the vote of thanks. More than 50 saplings were planted in the Vigyan Dham premises by officials and staff of UCOST and Uttarakhand Council for Biotech. On this occasion BP Purohit, Amit Pokhariyal, Jitendra Kumar and other staff members of UCOST and UCB were present.
