Harela festival of adornment of mother nature- Rawat

The Education and Health minister, Dhan Singh Rawat has said that Harela is the festival of adornment of nature and its celebration. The minister participated in a programme organised on the occasion of Harela at Government Girls Inter College (GGIC) Rajpur road on Saturday. He also planted a sapling there and made an appeal to the students and their parents to undertake plantation of trees.
Speaking on the occasion he said that our ancestors were very close to nature and they knew that nature has bestowed us with an immense natural wealth. He said that our ancestors used to return to nature what they used to extract from it and this is the reason why they developed the practice of celebrating a festival like Harela. The minister said that the environment is the basis of our existence and every one of us should be aware to save nature. He said that all the teachers, students and their parents should undertake plantation of saplings and make efforts to safeguard them till they become trees. The students of the school showcased their talent in a cultural programme and Yoga performance organised on the occasion. The girls of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), police cadets, scouts, guides and eco club of the schools took active part in the programme.
The programme was attended by chief education officer (CEO) of Dehradun Mukul Kumar Sati, district education officer S S Bisht, principal of the school Premlata Baudai and others.
