Harela symbolises peace, prosperity & nature’s conservation: CM

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that global warming is a subject of concern and contemplation for everyone. He said that nature has bestowed everything on Uttarakhand and it is our responsibility that the natural resources are used judiciously. 

The CM participated in a plantation drive in the name of martyrs at Maldevta here on Tuesday on the occasion of Harela. He said that the festival of Harela symbolizes happiness, peace, prosperity and environmental conservation. This festival connects life with nature, Dhami said and added that every one of us should take a pledge that we will conserve nature and provide a clean environment to our coming generation. He said that this year the theme of Harela in Uttarakhand is ‘ Ghar Ghar Hariyali, Laye Samridhi Aur Khushali’.

Dhami said that the State government has taken a target to plant 50 lakh saplings during Harela. The campaign will end on August 15 and the State government will take the help of social organisations, NGOs and self help groups for the success of the campaign.

 Dhami appealed to the people of the State to protect the planted trees. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started ‘Ek Ped Ma ke Nam’ campaign on world environment day and crores of saplings have been planted in the campaign till date. The CM said that Uttarakhand is at number one spot in the country in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

 The CM appealed that plantation should be done in the schools, colleges, local bodies and government and private institutions.

 He appreciated the effort of women of Kot village of Rudraprayag in development of ‘Singlas forest’ under the guidance of environmentalists.

In the programme the CM planted saplings in the memory of Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir) martyrs and the forest personnel who lost their lives in the Binsar fire incident.

Speaking on the occasion Forest minister Subodh Uniyal said that a target to plant 1.64 crore saplings has been taken on Harela. The minister said that forest wealth is an important source of livelihood in the State. He said the global warming and melting of glaciers are a matter of grave concern.

Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, Head of Forest Force (HoFF) Dhananjai Mohan, district magistrate of Dehradun Sonika and others were present on the occasion.
