Haridwar administration in action on dengue front

The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) and the district health department have started an awareness drive for the prevention of dengue. On Monday, a joint team of MCH and the health department visited the Mayapur area and made people aware about the prevention of dengue. The team also decanted the water stored in the pots, freezers, and coolers during its inspection. The District Malaria Officer Gurnam Singh said that the larvae of the dengue-causing mosquito were found at three places, which were destroyed. Four dengue patients were found in a hospital in Haridwar on Sunday which alerted the administration.
On Monday, the officers of the Health department reached MCH under the leadership of the District Malaria Officer. A meeting was held with City Health Officer Dr. Dhirendra Kumar and the Sanitation Inspector of the Municipal Corporation. After the meeting, the team of the Health Department and Municipal Corporation visited the Mayapur area and made people aware about the prevention of dengue disease. District Malaria Officer Gurnam Singh said that dengue larvae were found at three places during the inspection.
Dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti popularly known as Tiger Mosquito. The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache, and pain in the joints.
Ways to prevent Dengue
- Don’t allow water to collect in and near houses.
- Regularly decant fridges, coolers, pots, and cans.
- Spread kerosene or other oils on small water bodies which are effective to destroy the larvae of the Aedes mosquito.
- Inform the district health authorities of fogging to kill mosquitoes.
- Aedes strikes during daytime and flies near ground level so wear full-sleeved clothes at workplaces.
- Immediately seek medical advice when someone develops a fever.
